Overview
Greece is in the Europe hantavirus context. The country has documented circulation of PUUV, DOBV (Puumala virus, Dobrava-Belgrade virus).
Dobrava-Belgrade virus is the predominant hantavirus in Greece, with HFRS cases reported since 1984 and a case-fatality rate near 9%; cases concentrate in the north and north-west. Dobrava virus was first isolated in Greece by Papa et al. in 2001 from an Apodemus flavicollis trapped in the north-eastern border region.
