Overview
France is in the Europe hantavirus context. The country has documented circulation of PUUV (Puumala virus).
Nephropathia epidemica caused by Puumala virus is endemic in north-eastern France. The Ardennes massif near the Belgian border has historically accounted for the largest share of French cases, and Santé publique France's surveillance shows the endemic zone expanding southward and westward in recent years.
