Overview
Vietnam is in the Asia hantavirus context. The country has documented circulation of SEOV (Seoul virus).
Studies of small mammals captured in southern and central-highland Vietnam (2006–2009) found anti-hantavirus antibodies in 2.8% of rats (mostly in Ho Chi Minh City port and urban areas) and 13.1% of Asian house shrews (Suncus murinus, mostly in the Central Highlands), with Seoul-virus genome detected in seropositive Rattus norvegicus. Suncus murinus also carries Thottapalayam virus.
