Hantavirus in Indonesia

Overview

Indonesia is in the Asia hantavirus context. The country has documented circulation of SEOV (Seoul virus).

Serang virus (SERV), first characterised from an Asian house rat (Rattus tanezumi) trapped in Serang, is the indigenous Indonesian hantavirus; phylogenetically it groups with Seoul virus. Reviews report human seroprevalence ranging widely depending on cohort, with Seoul virus the dominant circulating strain.
