Overview

Senegal is in the Africa hantavirus context. The country has documented circulation of SEOV (Seoul virus).

Seoul virus has been molecularly detected in black rats (Rattus rattus) trapped in southeastern Senegal, per a 2023 EID review of seaport-driven SEOV circulation in Africa. Country-specific human surveillance literature is limited.
