Hantavirus in Nigeria

Overview

Nigeria is in the Africa hantavirus context. There is no major endemic hantavirus strain in this curated dataset; the country may still record imported cases.

Novel African hantaviruses (Sangassou virus and related Murinae-associated lineages) have been detected across West African rodents. Nigeria-specific peer-reviewed surveillance is limited; we list Hylomyscus spp. and Mus minutoides as regionally documented potential reservoirs.

Reservoir species

  • Hylomyscus spp.
  • Mus minutoides
