Hantavirus in Argentina

Overview

Argentina is in the Americas hantavirus context. The country has documented circulation of ANDV (Andes virus).

Argentine Patagonia (notably Chubut and Río Negro) is the region of highest Andes-virus activity. ANDV is the only hantavirus with documented person-to-person spread; the 2018–2019 Epuyén cluster traced 34 cases / 11 deaths to a single chain of close-contact transmission.
